1 It was any other normal day, until this announcement came and I almost lost my precious brother.
2 I was listening to the radio blasting out music late at night when the radio fizzed and crackled. I was shocked as my radio has never crackled before. Then, the fizz died down and it was replaced by a deep male voice. It said, “There is an atomic bomb threat. Please evacuate at the nearest bomb shelter as soon as possible.” After that, it was replaced by loud music again. And as an answer to the warning, the bell that was not used except for bombs threats sounded for a long time. I was practically stunned and rooted on the ground. Then, I ran for the emergency bag. Luckily I had prepared enough for the bomb, I thought. I sling the bag over my shoulders, ran down the stairs (as I was living on the 2nd floor) and headed to a evacuation shelter as fast as my legs can carry me.
3 Then, I remembered, hey, where’s my brother? I was about to rush out when a person in the bomb shelter said,” It may be dangerous”. I said,” I am going to rescue my brother, no matter what it takes.” With that, I rushed out and went up the stairs. There was my brother, sleeping soundly on his bed, oblivious to any movement around him. I gently shook him up and told him about the whole matter. He was shocked too. Together, we rushed down the stairs and hid in the bomb shelter.
4 Five days has passed and we are running low on supplies. A person was impatient, so he rushed out and exclaimed, “Singapore is still there!” We followed suit and were surprised.
5 The next day, while we were watching television, we learnt that it was fake and this is to test how quick the citizen’s can evacuate. So, it will sound the bell to tell everyone is safe and get out from the bomb shelter now. We were all happy that we have been through this test and we passed! (349)
Not logical..how can an atomic bomb come to Singapore.. we are not in war with anybody...

ReplyDeleteHow come an atomic bomb is in SGP? The character should have more common sense to realize that the atomic bomb part is unreasonable.
ReplyDeleteAtoic bomb? The goverment wouldn't use such a frightening and unreasonable word when just having a test, and a atomic bomb would still blow up a bomb shelter anyway. remember, the stuff is radioactive. The chain reaction is set off buy nuclear fission, so you should be realistic about the power of the atomic bomb. and they should be running, not hiding.
ReplyDeleteP.S. For your information, there is a more powerful nuclear bomb called the hydrogen bomb, set off by nuclear fusion. Will u like to use that in the story?

Good start as it summarizes the whole story!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I do not think that the government would hold such a major activity and treat it as a joke. It is quite unrealistic. Still, good try.

I like the part where you went back to get your brother, but I thought you should just tell him to fster run to a shelter with you and not explain to him the whole matter?
ReplyDeletenot logical. Atomic bomb is a too frightening bomb to be used on public, even in a test. they spread radiation and you will probably die in the shelter.

How come people would still listen to ROCK MUSIC late at night when u are supposed to be sleeping? I mean other types of music is still okay but rock music?!
ReplyDeleteIllogical at the atomic bomb part. How would the gov. use an atomic bomb as a practice? The citizens should have this sense to know that it is fake.

Illogical. Even if it is a drill people should be warned. I find it kind of lame as about 3 or 4 other essays are also about fake disasters which I personally find boring.
ReplyDeleteThe goverment should not play such a joke. Its economic losses are substential. Just take a look. When NYSE(new york stock exchange) stopped, NYSE lost like a million.
ReplyDeleteIf that person in the story can say that Singapore is still there, then he and all the other people must have been close to Singapore in order to see Singapore. An atomic bomb would be strong enough to destroy the whole Singapore and even the surrounding regions where Singapore still could be seen. Besides, there is no reason why there would be an atomic bomb coming to drop onto Singapore

ReplyDeleteIf there is an atomic bomb, why would there even be a person asking you to go to the bomb shelter? Also, if by the end of the first day you're still not suffering from radiation sickness, then that's strange. A shelter couldn't survive the blow, and it is not equipped for radioactive materials, by the way.
